HURL Elkhorn 50 Mile/50 K Ultramarathons - Saturday, August 6th, 2011

Welcome to the HURL Elkhorn 50 Mile Home Page!

Spectacular Montana scenery on 40 miles on technical single track trails, 2 miles of jeep road and 8 miles of dirt Forest Service road. No pavement, just dirt, rocks, forest, and remote meadows in the Elkhorn Mountains. Trail sections are all closed to motorized vehicles. Add in over 11,000 feet of elevation gain and numerous small stream crossings, and this is one of the toughest 50 milers you'll find anywhere.

We've had Deer, Elk, Moose, Black Bear, Bobcat, Coyote, and Mountain Goat sightings on race day. You will encounter bovines. There are 9 well stocked aid stations on the course, the longest distance between aid stations is 10 miles. Drop bags are available at mile 20 and 39. Our awesome volunteers either backpack or horseback aid station supplies into most of these aid stations. The race starts and finishes at Crystal Creek Campground, where primitive camping is available. There is a 16 hour time limit.

All finishers receive a print of Elkhorn Mountain related art, drawn each year by a local runner.  With your entry fee you also get a pre-race dinner for you and a guest, a technical T-shirt, a chance to win swag donated by our incredible sponsors, and all you can eat and drink once you cross the finish line. Want to run a 100 mile? If you finish the HURL Elkhorn 50 mile you are ready to run 100!
